Albuquerque –

Last month we reported about a near fatal hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian on west Central Ave at Coors Bl NW. According to APD, an off-duty APD officer was charged with leaving the scene of a critical-injury crash after he clipped a pedestrian while operating a large bagger type motorcycle at a high rate of speed.

Ezekiel Florez, 29, is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily harm. Florez graduated from the police academy in February 2024. He was placed on administrative leave while APD conducts an internal investigation. It was revealed during the investigation that off-duty APD officer Krystal Garcia was also on the bike with Florez.

Surveillance video showed the westbound light for Central was green when the motorcycle was about to enter the intersection. The motorcycle had a rider and passenger and both seen wearing sun glasses as they gained acceleration as they proceeded west on Central approaching Coors. The white Indian motorcycle collided with the pedestrian just east of the intersection. The homeless man can be seen running from north to south across the intersection.

Body camera footage shows officers going to Florez’s house to try to find him and the motorcycle used in the crash. No one at the house knew where he was and didn’t answer any questions. His marked police car could be seen parked in front of the house on the body cam videos.

Body camera footage revealed APD investigators trying to piece together what exactly happened before and after the crash. Nearly four hours later, Florez and Garcia arrived back at the scene. They turned themselves in to investigators. Florez was on the phone with his attorney as he was taken into custody. Garcia was only detained for questioning. Both were put on administrative leave at the scene of the crash.

Florez was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident (great bodily harm or death). Both remain on administrative leave.
