Albuquerque –
Deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic violence incident early Tuesday morning that left one child dead and two others critically injured.
On February 17, 2026, at approximately 1:18 AM, deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence incident at the 700 block of NM 333. A female caller reported that a male suspect was at her home armed with a handgun. While BCSO deputies were en route to the listed location, dispatch received multiple updates indicating that shots had been fired at the residence.
When deputies arrived, they encountered a male at the scene. Deputies deployed a Taser and took him into custody.
When deputies investigated the scene further they found one child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The calling female and another child were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
BCSO has advised that the case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Officials will release the identities of those involved after completing next of kin notifications. They plan to provide additional information as it becomes available.
BCSO Sheriff John Allen has scheduled a press conference for 1:30 PM, to provide an update. We will be attending and live streaming on all of our social platforms.
In a statement released by the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, officials addressed the tragedy’s impact on their staff.

This heartbreaking situation has profoundly affected our entire office. While our team confronts difficult and emotional circumstances in the course of our daily work, we are, first and foremost, human. News of this magnitude impacts us not only as professionals but as colleagues, friends, and members of a caring community.
Our colleague is a dedicated and respected member of our team. During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts are with her, her children, and all of their loved ones.
We are committed to supporting our staff as they process and cope with this tragedy. Counselors and support resources are available to any member of our team who may need assistance.
Out of respect for the privacy of those involved, we will not be sharing additional details. We ask the community to keep the family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
