ALBUQUERQUE –
Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death in the 4500 block of Glendale Place NW.
Officers responded around 11:00am and located a deceased individual.
The City’s Animal Welfare Department responded to the property and removed 19 dogs from the location.
We learned from sources the woman had been dead for a few days and the pack of dogs ate her. It is said it made the identification of the woman difficult.
Neighbors told us an unidentified woman on the property was attacked a few weeks ago. They said CABQ Animal Control was at the property for the dog bite case.
This is an on-going investigation and more information will be released when available.
UPDATE:
We received an update from City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare:
Following a suspicious death investigation, Animal Welfare responded to the 4500 block of Glendale Place NW to remove multiple dogs from the location. There were 19 mixed breed dogs at the property, weighing around 30-50 lbs each.
For the safety of the community, the dogs have all been removed from the property and are now in custody of Animal Welfare. The dogs will remain under the department’s care throughout the investigation. The animals involved in this incident will be quarantined from other animals.
More information will be released as the investigation continues.
Note to self:
Don’t depend on Albuquerque Animal Control to control animals.
It will be interesting to know what breed of dogs were there, and under what conditions they were kept.
I would have thought if the city had been to this place responding to a dog bite, they would have seen all those dogs. I’m sure that’s way too many dogs allowed to legally be held at a residence. Why didn’t they remove the dogs at that time?
Another local news source reported that after a woman was attacked a few weeks ago Animal Control did not have the authority to remove the dogs, and the dogs owner was deemed incompetent to face charges. What the hell?
