Albuquerque –
On the heels of APD charging 4 teens in the murder of a 5-year-old girl, they held a press conference at APD’s Headquarters to update about the investigation.
In recent years, the city of Albuquerque has been grappling with a distressing trend that has sent shockwaves through its neighborhoods: the increasing involvement of teenagers in gun-related incidents. The surge in teen gun usage has ignited concerns among residents, community leaders, and law enforcement officials, prompting urgent calls for comprehensive solutions to address this pressing issue.
According to local law enforcement, instances of gun-related crimes involving teenagers have decreased but there have been news attention headlines of teen’s using guns for felony violence. From petty disputes to gang-related conflicts, these incidents have not only resulted in tragic fatalities but have also left lasting scars on the city’s sense of safety.
Law enforcement agencies are also stepping up their efforts to engage with local youth. Police officers are working to build trust and rapport with teenagers through community outreach programs, workshops on conflict resolution, and open dialogues that address their concerns.
APD is working vigorously with local schools, parent/guardians, and community leaders to curb gun violence among teens.
