BCSO Deputy-Involved Shooting from Feb 11

Albuquerque – Shortly after 11am earlier today, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office South Area Command Deputies responded to a report of an alleged stolen vehicle located inside the Walmart parking lot at 3500 Coors Blvd SW. This Walmart store is within BCSO jurisdiction at Coors and Rio Bravo SW.

Upon deputies arrival, with the help of their Auto Theft Unit they got information that a stolen car was at the Walmart. The man operating the vehicle was previously identified and found to have an active out-of-state felony arrest warrant for his arrest. Based on information obtained from the warrant, the suspect was considered armed and dangerous.

When deputies attempted to contact the driver, an encounter between deputies and the suspect ensued. During the encounter a deadly deputy-involved shooting occurred. At least one deputy discharged their firearm, striking the suspect. Deputies immediately provided limited medical assistance until fully trained emergency medical services arrived and pronounced the man dead on scene.

This incident is under investigation by the Multi-Agency Task Force. The task force consists of APD, BCSO, NMSP, and the DA’s office. As is normal protocol for any deputy-involved shooting this investigation will be continued into the early morning hours. BCSO command staff wants to assure the public that this will be a thorough and transparent process. Scene processing will continue for hours, and BCSO assures us that further information will be shared with the public in a scheduled press conference in the upcoming weeks.

The identity of the deceased man will be withheld until the next of kin has been notified.

  1. Great Job BCSO!!! anyone who has earned the armed and dangerous with a felony warrant designation is defective and needs to be removed from society. The human animal is the only animal that pampers it’s defective members. We the law abiding citizens of this great country and state deserve to be protected from defective human , criminals who refuse to follow the law. Part of our responsibility as citizens is to follow the law not like what’s happening currently where people only follow the laws they like. As we have seen many times if you outlaw guns then only outlaws have guns.

  2. Joe…BCSO said Max Justin Marlatt, 32, was wanted on a first-degree felony warrant for criminal sexual contact of a minor out of Hazel Park, Michigan. Might want to recalibrate your moral compass. Ain’t sayin…
