Albuquerque –
Minutes after 5:20 PM, the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area of Tramway Blvd NE and the I-40 westbound on-ramp for a vehicle vs bicycle crash. When officers and emergency personnel arrived, they learned that a bicyclist had been hit by a city bus. The bus driver remained at the scene.
Shortly after the crash, a person contacted us to say they had just went by the area and noticed the bicyclist lying motionless on the ground.
At 6:15 PM, we emailed APD to find out the condition of the bicyclist, get more details on the crash and closure. We received a response at 7:27 PM, and we learned that the bicyclist died at the hospital from head injuries.
Another bystander contacted us at 6:40 PM, to state they saw a heavy police presence in the area and Tramway southbound is closed from the I-40 on-ramp to Cloudview. They also observed a city bus was also stopped on the on-ramp to I-40WB. This city bus is also viewable on NMDOT cameras (shown below).
The Albuquerque Police Department’s Motor Unit is reportedly investigating this crash. This is the fourth motor’s call out since yesterday at 6:30 pm. This is the second Motor’s call out today.
UPDATE:
As of 8:25 PM, APD is opening up lanes of traffic.
