Body Found on Walter St, Police Investigate Shooting Victim Dead on Scene

Albuquerque –

At around 2:45 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department responded to the 2100 block of Walter for reports of a body laying in the street. This is near Thaxton Ave SE & Walter St SE. According to the caller, the deceased person appeared to have been hit by a car.

Officers arriving on the scene reportedly discovered that the individual had been shot before being run over.* The vehicle that struck the person had allegedly fled the scene.

This has been made a violent crimes callout. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists are en-route to investigate.

*UPDATE:

A bystander calling for help initially told police dispatch that this was possibly a hit-and-run. However, while on the scene, officers learned that this information was incorrect—the victim had been shot, and the wound made the witness mistakenly believe it was caused by a car accident.

This is the 85th homicide for the Albuquerque Metro area for 2024. This is the second homicide for September, and 10th homicide since August 27th (7 days).
