The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating two fatal crashes that occurred overnight.
12th Street and Menaul
On March 28th, around 11:50 PM, Albuquerque Police Department officers and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a motorcycle crash at 12th St. NW and Menaul Blvd NW. Upon their arrival they learned that the rider died at the scene.
Shortly after midnight on March 29th, the Fatal Crash Team from APD responded to investigate. Through the investigation, officers learned a blue Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on 12th St. The motorcycle crashed into the roundabout located at the intersection of 12th St. and Menaul.
The motorcyclist lost control, slid southbound on 12th St. NW, and was ejected from the motorcycle. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s unclear if impairment or speed contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Coors Blvd. and Sequoia Rd.NW
On March 28, at 11:45 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and rescue crews from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash at Coors Blvd NW and Sequoia Rd NW.
APD’s Fatal Crash Unit responded to the scene to investigate. The investigation revealed that two vehicles, a white Nissan Juke and a white Volkswagen GTI, were traveling south on Coors. The two vehicles collided resulting in both vehicles losing control.
Both vehicles crossed the median into northbound lanes of traffic just north of Sequoia. The Nissan rolled, and the driver was ejected, dying on the scene. The Volkswagen driver suffered minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
