Albuquerque –
At approximately 4:08 PM, on March 29, 2025, Albuquerque Fire Rescue received a dispatch to 5000 Cumbre del Sur Ct NE, near the Embudito Trail, for an injured hiker.
A hiker with a lower extremity injury, approximately half a mile up the trail, was unable to return due to the injury. The injury is reportedly not life threatening.
AFR Rescue Units made contact with the injured hiker at around 4:36 PM and developed a plan to assist them down the trail. Due to multiple narrow points along the trail, crews are working on a safe extraction strategy to remove the hiker.
The rescue is ongoing.
UPDATE:
In an update posted on AFR’s social media pages, they said Engine 16, Engine 8, Rescue 16, Rescue 15, Ladder 20 and Battalion 3 were dispatched to this event. AFR’s Alarm Room was able to obtain an exact location which expedites rescue operations. Crews made contact with the hiker and packaged the hiker for removal off the trail and back down to the trailhead. The entire operation took about two hours to complete.
