Albuquerque –
Former Sheriff Darren White announced today in a campaign video that he is running for Albuquerque Mayor.
White, a seasoned law enforcement officer, has served as an Albuquerque Police Officer, Secretary of the Department of Public Safety, two-term Sheriff of Bernalillo County, and Director of Public Safety for the City of Albuquerque. Before becoming a police officer, he also served in the elite 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army.
Per his announcement, White is honored to have the endorsements from City Councilors Dan Lewis, Renee Grout, and Dan Champine.
White’s decision to run stems from the worsening issues of crime and homelessness, which he believes require immediate and significant change.
“Mayor Keller has presided over the most murders in Albuquerque’s history,” said White. “His weak approach to crime and homelessness has failed and it’s time for change.”
As mayor, White pledges to provide police officers with the resources and support needed to restore order to the city. He also vows to repeal Mayor Keller’s Sanctuary City law, which he claims allows criminals who are illegal immigrants to be released back onto the streets.
In the announcement video, seen below, White walks through a sprawling tent city on First Street in Albuquerque, underscoring the severity of the city’s homelessness crisis.
“The Supreme Court has given cities the authority to clean up these tent cities, but Mayor Keller has refused to do so. That will change when I am elected mayor,” said White.
White’s announcement goes on to say that after retiring, he launched several successful small businesses. The video also highlights how rampant crime and homelessness have forced many local businesses to close.
White’s campaign will seek public financing, and he encourages voters to visit his website, www.DarrenWhiteForMayor.com, for more information.
White is the fourth candidate to enter the race for mayor, challenging incumbent Mayor Tim Keller. On January 4, 2025, Mayling Armijo declared her intent to run for mayor. She brings experience as the economic development director for Bernalillo County. Eddie Varela, a retired Albuquerque fire chief, has more than 30 years of public service experience. Patrick Sais, who ran as a write-in candidate in the 2021 Albuquerque mayoral election, is a small business owner and a retired truck driver owner/operator with deep roots in New Mexico.
Per the CABQ “2025 Candidates and Committees” page, Christopher R. Sedillo has also announced his intent to run for District 3.

I think you guys are doing great work. My thoughts about ‘comments’ are that it’s too bad you’re not making it a community type of section where readers can read and reply to one another. I am addicted to the New York Post. If you feel what I mean, check out how they do it. Just a suggestion. Thanks for being there.

This White dude sounds like a complete failure. Seems like he accomplished absolutely nothing as a law enforcement professional as evidenced by the state of affairs in his former departments. Then he has the silicone stuffed lips to blame others for his own incompetence while trying to advance his own political career. Go away trumper!
What we really need is a hardliner.
Someone that will round up all criminals, starting from the top, in politics. Then have them deported to the middle of the Gulf of America. No more wrist slapping, sink or swim… literally.
Vote for Jack, I’ll throw criminals into the Gulf. Pedos get a millstone around the neck.
Thank You. I think White would be a great Mayor. I will vote for him.

Yes!!!!!! He has my vote !!!!
Nooooooooooo thanks!!
My feelings exactly
Although I think Mr. Darren White would be a good Mayor (anyone but Keller), I am most likely going to go with Ms. Armijo. She is not accepting any publicly funded moneys and will only accept private donations. She has slammed the current administration for their closed door, failed policies and will replace the police chief once she is in office.
