Crews Battle Dangerous Fire in Abandoned Building

On October 30, 2024, at approximately 1:00 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at the abandoned Albuquerque Indoor Carting building. Upon arrival, crews encountered a large, bow-string roofed building with heavy smoke issuing from both ends. Given the hazardous conditions, including the lack of egress points and the risk of structural collapse, a defensive strategy was initially implemented. Firefighters were able to identify the fire’s origin from the exterior and made a calculated entry to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes, with damage primarily confined to a second-floor office area. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is suspected to be related to unauthorized occupancy, based on the evidence found at the scene.
