Motorcyclist Killed in Crash in NE Albuquerque

Albuquerque –

Around 1:00 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and firefighters from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle near Carlisle Blvd NE and Menaul Blvd NE.

Upon arrival, they pronounced the motorcycle rider dead from their injuries. A witness observed paramedics covering the rider, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, with a sheet.

Officers and Police Service Aides have closed several streets in the area while investigators process the scene.

Around 5:30 PM, APD’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos provided an update stating:

APD is investigating a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a motorcycle driver this afternoon in Northeast Albuquerque.

Officers responded to the crash shortly before 1 p.m. at Menaul Blvd. and Richmond Dr., N.E. Investigators determined a purple Subaru was facing southbound on Richmond at the stop sign to turn across Menaul and head eastbound on Menaul. A Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound on Menaul approaching Richmond.

The Subaru traveled southbound across westbound Menaul and a T-Bone type collision occurred. The motorcyclist received significant injuries from the crash and died at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was not injured and remained on scene.

At this time speed from the motorcyclist appears to be a factor in for this crash. The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.
