Police Conduct Controlled Blast After Suspicious Device Found in NE ABQ

Albuquerque –

On Friday, February 28, around 5:30 PM, police activity was reported in the area of Morris St. NE and Love Ave. NE. When the call began, the Albuquerque Police Department had blocked multiple streets in the area due to a reported suspicious device.

Three residents had reached out to us about the incident. One neighbor sent us a video, while another, living near Tomasita St. NE and San Jacinto Ave. NE, says that area was also blocked off. Another resident told us that AFR arrived with an ambulance around 5:30 PM and had been waiting nearby as a precaution.

Around 6:38 PM, APD’s Bomb Unit conducted a controlled blast of the device. At 6:44 PM, APD declared the threat to be no longer active. As a result, they subsequently broke down the perimeter surrounding the incident.

Residents and motorists in the vicinity should expect the reopening of several lanes of traffic.

  1. I am only a few thousand people who really appreciate you police officers for your service AND dedication . I for one do totally understand what you officers go through, as well as ALL the negativity surrounding your job. I also want you to know that I, Steven Montoya and family will be there, to give you some – BACK UP, if and when you may need it.God bless you all and take care of yourselves. Cover your six as always. Semper-fi.. God bless you and yours.
