Albuquerque –
APD arrested a suspect in last week’s road raging shooting that resulted in injuries to two people in the area of 800 Coors Blvd., N.W. He was taken into custody after an APD SWAT standoff on March 10th, 2026 near a home by West Mesa High School
Detectives with APD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit identified Houston Raul Ruiz Licon, 22, as the suspect who shot at another vehicle on March 3, 2026, striking a 30-year-old female and a 17-year-old male. Both victims were rushed to a hospital to be treated for their wounds.
The criminal complaints says a family caravan was going to Walmart and Ruiz Licon started trying to instigate them. A few moments later gunshots rang out and the victims were struck by gunfire. A ShotSpotter activation indicated at least 5 shots were fired during the incident.
Detectives publicized photos of the older model pickup truck involved in the shooting and received several tips through Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers. They also used license-plate readers to help identify Ruiz Licon.
According to a criminal complaint, Ruiz Licon worked at the Shamrock Foods, a warehouse food distribution place for the public and restaurants, employees submitted tips about Ruiz Licon’s truck.
It is evident he was not a trusted co-worker and hated by his co-workers if they submitted tips about him.
Ruiz Licon was arrested today at a home in Southwest Albuquerque. He is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
