Albuquerque –
Minutes after 12:20 PM, a New Mexico State Police officer was hit by another vehicle at the intersection of Wyoming and Central. The NMSP officer was reportedly t-boned, and the force of the impact caused the vehicle to roll over.
Shortly after, additional officers from the NMSP, Albuquerque Police Department, Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Police Service Aides were sent to assist.
AFR’s Rescue 5 reportedly transported one person to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Eastbound Central is closed at Wisconsin, and Southbound Wyoming is closed at Central. The traffic signal is supposedly down and the power is still live. AFR has requested PNM and Albuquerque Traffic Engineering Department to this location.
We reached out to New Mexico State Police officials and will update the story when we hear back from them.
UPDATE:
The lanes of traffic that were closed due to the crash have since reopened.
” I can confirm a state police officer was involved in a crash with at least one other vehicle. This investigation is developing and is all the information we have at this time,” said Sgt. Sergeant Ricardo Breceda of the NMSP.
I hope this isn’t the result of another impaired driver running a red light? I hope all people involved including the officer are ok.
It wasn’t. the officers were going through the intersection with lights and the car that hit them was not paying attention so continued through her green light and into the officer SUV. SUV flew though, that was kinda cool. Hope everyone is okay.
Who’s fault was it?
