Albuquerque –
On May 20th, 2025, Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen was driving on the westside of Albuquerque when he observed a black Dodge pickup truck driving reckless and almost causing Sheriff Allen to crash into other vehicles. The driver was identified as 25-year-old Benjamin Vigil, of Albuquerque.
Sheriff Allen was in an unmarked vehicle and engaged his lights and sirens. The truck sped up and fled from the traffic stop. The complaint says the Sheriff was able to obtain license plate information and BCSO deputies were able to find his home.
In a video posted to BCSO’s social media, it shows body camera footage of the arrest. There was a PA announcement:
This is the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Benjamin Vigil, I need you to exit the residence with your hands up, open, and empty. And contact deputies!
Vigil exited the residence without incident and was put in back of a police unit. Sheriff Allen went back to the unit with Vigil in it and the suspect had a surprised look. Sheriff Allen asked Vigil if he remembered a white vehicle.
“That was you? Son of a bitch. Not the one I should have done that to,” Vigil said with a shocked look on his face.
Vigil fled to his dad’s house and his dad confirmed that it was his son’s truck and he just got back from a dentist appointment.
Vigil has previous charges of reckless driving and speeding in the New Mexico court system.
