Albuquerque – Around 1:35 AM, on April 3, officers with the Southwest Area Command responded to reports of a shooting in the 17000 block of Antler Tool Rd SW. Responding officers located an individual at the entryway of the home. The male sustained at least one gunshot wound to his body.

Bernalillo County Fire Rescue emergency medical personnel responded, but they pronounced the male dead shortly after their arrival.

Preliminary reports indicate that an adult male was reportedly trying to force his way into the home and the homeowner fired his handgun through the door, striking and killing the man.

Detectives are investigating this shooting as a possible justifiable homicide.

This is the third homicide call out in seven hours. If confirmed to be a justifiable homicide, it would be the 7th justifiable homicide of 2025. APD does not include justifiable homicides in the yearly count of homicides reported to the FBI for their Uniformed Crime Reporting (UCR). There has been an increase in justifiable homicides this year. According to our data, there were 11 total justifiable homicides in all of 2024.

Editor Note: The Office of the Medical Investigator categorizes all homicides, regardless of whether a District Attorney (DA) or police department (APD, BCSO, or NMSP) deems them justified. ABQ RAW includes all homicides in our total, which explains why the ABQ RAW number is higher than the one the APD typically reports.

    1. All the way back to the 1970s I remember Albuquerque being insanely violent.
The APD had the highest kill rate per capita of any city in the United States including the crime capital Washington DC.

    1. Hey fuck you. I’m not racist. I only hate bad people. The fact that statistically the majority are black is purely coincidental. It’s not my fault 13% of the population commit over 50% of the crimes.
