Albuquerque –

At 10:25 PM, on April 2, an Albuquerque Police Department officer driving in the 1600 block of 2nd St NW, near Constitution and 2nd St NW, describing a working structure fire involving a 10’x15′ shed with exposure risks to adjacent buildings. Albuquerque Fire Rescue dispatched crews, with Engine 4 arriving first on scene reporting heavy smoke and flames showing.

Due to the immediate exposure concerns, dispatch instructed additional incoming units to continue their response. Squad 2 and Rescue 4 arrived shortly after Engine 4 and initiated an offensive fire attack. Upon arrival, Engine 1 worked in coordination with Rescue 4 to suppress the fire. Battalion Chief 1 assumed command of the incident.

Crews completed a primary search of the structure, confirming an all-clear. Firefighters knocked down the fire and brought it under control at 10:36 PM. Purportedly, AFR did not need to call out PNM or the NM Gas company. Loss stop was declared at 10:48 PM. “Loss stop” in a fire context refers to the point at which firefighters have successfully halted the spread of fire and minimized further damage to property, whether by fire, smoke or water damage. According to AFR, there was no fire extension to the adjacent structure.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

The official cause remains undetermined, but initial reports suggest that the shed’s contents may have contributed to the fire’s ignition.
