Update:

At 11:38 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue issued a media update which stated:

“On 07/04/2026, at approximately 18:31, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to Tingley and Alcalde for reports of a possible brush fire. First-arriving AFR units arrived on scene and reported a medium wildland fire with heavy smoke and active fire extending into the tree canopy. The fire was approximately 1/10 of an acre, with flame lengths reaching up to 4 feet in fuels consisting of heavy cottonwood timber and brush. Values at risk were the open space area and fishing ponds south of Tingley Beach. The estimated wind speed was 4 mph, with the wind coming from the west, contributing to a very high spread potential.

Initial strategies included direct attack using an anchor-and-flank strategy. Access was made difficult by heavy brush and no road access to the fire area. Additional resources included BCFR Tender 66, a State Forestry strike team, and the Bernalillo County skid steer. The fire grew to approximately 5.5 acres before the forward progress was stopped and then fully contained within 4 hours.

One individual was found deceased on the fire’s edge; however, this did not appear to be associated with the fire. APD officers, AFR investigators, and crime scene technicians were on scene conducting their own investigation. The fire and containment line will be monitored through the night, and State Forestry will return in the morning to complete operations. AFR Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
