Albuquerque –
On Saturday, September 28, at around 8:25 PM, 911 received a call about a crash near the intersection of San Antonio Dr. NE and San Pedro Dr. NE.
When officers and emergency workers arrived, they found many vehicles involved. Reportedly, one person died on scene.
We have heard from four witnesses that this area is blocked off with crime scene tape, as officers are actively investigating.
We do not know if other individuals were hurt or taken to a local area hospital. APD’s primary PIO is out of office and the two working in his place, haven’t sent any information out to the media. We sent an email asking for comment.
They have been sending email updates a day or even days after the event happened. We will keep you posted and check back here for updates.
UPDATE:
13 hours after the incident, Deputy Director of Communications for APD, Rebecca Atkins sent an email about the incident. Average time of news being released about critical events is 1.5 days to non-existent from APD as of late.
The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash team is investigating a fatal crash that occurred overnight. On the evening of September 28, 2024 the Fatal Crash Team was called to the intersection of San Pedro Drive NE and San Antonio Drive NE for a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. There were three vehicles involved, one was a Toyota Highlander, one was a Kia Optima and an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. A preliminary investigation indicated the unknown vehicle was driving eastbound on San Pedro just east of San Antonio. The unknown vehicle collided with the pedestrian who was in the roadway at the time of the crash. The two other vehicles involved also then struck the pedestrian but stayed at the scene and spoke with officers. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. This is an ongoing investigation and all evidence on scene was gathered by detectives.
Apparently Rebecca Atkins has no concept of North. Her statement informs me an unknown car was traveling East on San Pedro. Really? What other garbage has she included in her news release? APD needs to give up on DEI hires, maybe based on merit would be a better choice.
