Albuquerque –

On August 20th, 2025, ABQ RAW received a video of Albuquerque Public Schools police officer holding a student at gunpoint. The officer could be seen holding his gun at the low ready and giving commands to the student to get on the ground.

“What do you want me on the ground for, cuz?!” said the teen in the video.

It is obvious he skipped a few English and Literature classes with his mumbled slang response to officers. His lack of respect towards officials was also apparent as ignored commands from the armed officer. The student then pushed an administrator out of their way and he walked to a corner of the class. The video also shows panicked students leaving the classroom and then it cuts off.

APS public information officers sent a letter about the West Mesa incidents:

While we were cruising around town, we learned that two students from Del Norte High School had fled the campus, with one reportedly carrying a handgun. The teens ran to a nearby shopping center, where APS Police and Albuquerque Police took them into custody at Montgomery Plaza.

One of the teens in custody was a female and she was very combative with officers while she was in the back of a patrol car. Eventually, an ambulance came to the scene and they had to use restraints to keep her from striking medical and police personnel.

Regarding the Del Norte High School incident, APS released the following information: “APS Police and the Albuquerque Police Department had been looking for a Del Norte student due to prior incidents and a report that she might be armed. A Campus Service Aide spotted the girl and her boyfriend walking outside the school gate. The student and her boyfriend, another Del Norte student, ran across the street and were taken into custody by officers from APD and APS police. The two were searched, and a gun was found.”

We also received tips that two guns were then found at Albuquerque High School. We contacted APS and have received a reply about the AHS incident. According to APS “an Albuquerque High School staff member overheard that a student could be in possession of a gun. A member of the administrative staff located the student, conducted a search of his backpack and found the weapon. The student was detained.” In a separate incident “Albuquerque High officials received information that another student could be in possession of a weapon. Administrative and security officers quickly reacted, searched the student’s backpack and found a handgun. The student was detained.”

APS released a statement from Superintendent Dr. Gabriella Durán Blakey.

We are outraged that firearms were brought onto our campuses but grateful that the systems we put in place to keep our campuses safe worked,” Superintendent Gabriella Blakey said. “Our See Something, Say Something messaging is working.”

Our Centegix alert badges are being used to activate emergency protocols and summon help from police and school administrators,” Dr. Blakey added. “Our staff is reacting quickly to any reports of guns on campus. And our APS Police Department is working tirelessly to follow up on safety concerns that are brought to their attention.”

Superintendent Blakey also noted that the district is working closely with District Attorney Sam Bregman.

We will update the story if we learn about any of the charges related to these teens bringing guns on campuses.
