Alexander M.M. Uballez, the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, along with Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced today that Alvin White, a 54-year-old resident of Little Water, New Mexico, and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, has been sentenced to 57 months in prison. White pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and entered into a government agreement on February 1, 2023. As part of his plea deal, White also cooperated and provided testimony in the concluded trial against his co-defendant, Raydell Billy.
According to court documents, on the evening of April 11, 2022, White, along with co-defendants Raydell Billy and Raynorma Billy, forcibly entered John Doe’s residence and assaulted him. During Raydell’s trial, White testified that he and Raydell Billy attacked John Doe with the intention of causing bodily harm. White stated that both of them struck John Doe, and Raydell Billy discharged a firearm in John Doe’s direction. Following the gunshot and a blow to John Doe’s skull with the pistol, the assailants left, expressing anger by riddling John Doe’s car with bullet holes.
Raynorma Billy pleaded guilty on February 28, 2023, admitting to being a conspirator and acknowledging discussions with Raydell Billy and Alvin White regarding the assault on John Doe. Raynorma received a sentence of time served, followed by three years of supervised release. Raydell was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon on March 8, 2023, and was sentenced to 120 months in prison.
The investigation was conducted by the Farmington office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Navajo Nation Office of Criminal Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alexander F. Flores and Matthew J. McGinley.
