Albuquerque –
At around 4:15 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and personnel from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to 2950 Central Ave SE, for reports of a vehicle that crashed into the building. This Walgreens is located off Central and Girard SE.
When APD officers and AFR arrived, they found a pickup truck facing in reverse against the building resting on the Walgreens sidewalk. There was damage to the Walgreens store, and the truck had significant left front end and side damage. The pickup truck that sustained significant damage from colliding with the building reportedly had a stuck accelerator, causing it to hit with another pickup in the parking lot before driving out of control onto the Walgreens sidewalk.
A pedestrian was on the Walgreens sidewalk and was pinned underneath the truck for several minutes until rescue could remove him and AFR’s Rescue 5 transported him immediately to UNMH in critical condition.
AFR’s Heavy Technical Rescue (HTR) was on scene accessing the structural integrity of the Walgreens pillar that was hit.
We will update this story if we learn more information.

UPDATE 2:
APD issued an update on Saturday at 3:25PM which said:
On Friday, January 31, 2025, APD’s Motors Unit responded to reports of a critical injury crash involving two vehicles and a pedestrian at 2950 Central Avenue (Walgreens parking lot) around 5:30pm.
The preliminary investigation revealed there was 2005 Ford F-150 that was initially stationary in the a parking spot at the location, facing east. The F-150 exited the parking spot, mounted a curb and then struck the front end of a 2003 Ford F-150, resulting in minor damage. The 2005 F-150 then proceeded into an attempted U-turn, heading westbound through the parking lot and subsequently collided with the Walgreens building before striking the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and was listed to be in critical condition. This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be shared when available.

As a friend of a passenger of the pickup which caused this accident I would like to clarify a detail. The truck started, was shifted into drive, and immediately accelerated without input to the accelerator pedal. The driver did all he could to avoid injuring anyone and damaging any property.
Why did he not hit the break or engage the parking break?
That story doesn’t hold much water.
Sounds like hearsay
He did. Look up unintended acceleration f-150. It is a known problem but not worth a recall. All F-150 trucks and other ford vehicles built after 2004 use the same throttle control system
And with a V-8 at full throttle brakes and e-brakes are not enough to stop the vehicle. E-brakes typically only engage the rear brakes anyway. The only thing to do is turn off the ignition without locking the steering. Shifting into neutral will also work to stop the vehicle and the rev limiter should prevent major damage to the engine. Then turn off the ignition.
Is there any info. About the pedestrian that was injured?
Please I need an answer to this. I was there and can’t stop thinking about if the pedestrian is alive.
Hi, APD sent an update today, February 1, 2025, around 3:25PM, which stated the pedestrian was still listed in critical condition. Thank you for your concern, and if we learn more we will try to update this story.
He is in the hospital, in coma and waiting to his family arrive. Can you give us more information?

Thank you. Although I’m not completely sure, it’s pretty likely that the injured pedestrian is a very close friend of mine. I can’t have much info about his condition since I’m currently in Mexico, so any update is deeply appreciated
Jason were you the driver? You seem to know alot of information….
Baron, you must have the reading comprehension of the average APS student. He clearly said he is a friend of the driver.
Last I heard the pedestrian was still listed as critical.
What happened to the pedestrian?
