As we informed you yesterday, on July 1, 2024, at around 8:10 PM, the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Tramway Blvd NE and Montgomery Blvd NE. During this initial response, a silver 2013 Lexus with a personal New Mexico license plate “DATBEACH” crashed into an Albuquerque Fire Rescue fire truck at the scene. A dispatcher sent an additional APD Officer and three Police Service Aides (PSAs) as backup for this second crash.

An APD Officer contacted the driver of the Lexus, identified as Isabella Haney, age 19, and observed signs of intoxication. The officer requested a DWI saturation unit, and an officer on DWI duty arrived to assist. Seated on the fire truck, Haney refused medical assistance.

According to the criminal complaint, she exhibited bloodshot, watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol, and slurred speech. Initially, she denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to having one drink earlier that night. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was subsequently searched and arrested.

Haney was transported to the Prisoner Transport Center (PTC). At the PTC, Haney was read the N.M. Implied Consent Advisory and underwent the Intoxilyzer 8000 breath test. The results allegedly indicated a blood alcohol content at or above the legal limit of .14.

After receiving medical clearance at Lovelace Hospital, Authorities returned Haney to the PTC for booking and processing without incident. They booked Haney into the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) on July 2, 2024, at 3:23 AM. Consequently, she has since been released on her own recognizance (ROR’d).

Haney is presently only charged with DWI (.08) – 1st Offense. It is unclear if she will be charged for the criminal damage to the fire truck.

“Fleet is estimating that the truck will be out 6-8 months,” said AFR Lt. Jason Fejer and public information officer.

Lt. Fejer indicated AFR will rely on reserve rig until this one is repaired and they did not have any interruption of service from the crash. There are no estimates on the costs to repair the damaged AFR fire truck.

Thankfully, no firefighters or bystanders were hurt.
