North Valley of Albuquerque –
Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue and Albuquerque Fire Rescue are on the scene of a two-alarm fire near 709 Nikanda NE, which is near Edith Blvd NE & Nikanda Rd NE. Video we initially received from viewers shows the blaze in the industrial area. Fire crews were also seen staged at and battling the fire at 5048 Edith Blvd NE. At least one structure has been totally lost in the fire, and others have been damaged. Pallets and vehicles have also reportedly burned.
Firefighters are trying to keep the blaze from spreading to other properties and while on scene, we observed firefighters protecting the Premier Distributing Company, which is the distributor for Anheuser-Busch. Some of the Anheuser-Busch brands include Budweiser, Bud Light, and Michelob Ultra.
We saw numerous citizens arriving at this location to take videos and photos of the blaze and watch firefighters battling the fire.
As of this publication, the cause is unknown. Firefighters have been battling not only the blaze but wind and low water pressure issues. Power and utilities have purportedly been shutoff in this area to ensure the safety of firefighters.
Deputies from Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), officers from Albuquerque Police Department, and Police Service Aides are blocking off traffic all throughout the area.
Drivers should avoid the area.
We have a reporter at the scene and will have a video uploaded soon.
UPDATE:
At approximately 5:29 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle fire in the area of Nikanda Rd and Edith Blvd. Upon arrival, crews located the fire at 804/808 Nikanda Rd NE. Engine 19 arrived first and reported a large, wind-driven fire on a property containing a significant amount of stacked wooden pallets.
The fire had already extended across the property and was threatening adjacent properties. Due to the rapid progression of the incident, command upgraded it to a second-alarm fire, prompting a multi-agency response that included units from Bernalillo County Fire Rescue Stations 30 and 36.
Crews brought the fire under control after approximately two hours of coordinated suppression efforts. No injuries were reported among civilians or fire personnel. One individual was evaluated for a medical condition on scene but did not require transport or further medical care. No residents were displaced as a result of the incident.
AFR and BCFR fire investigators will conduct a joint investigation into the origin and cause, as the incident involved both jurisdictions. Fire crews will remain on scene through the evening to monitor for hot spots and ensure complete extinguishment.
