Around 12:20 PM, firefighters from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a multi-family residential structure fire near Wyoming and Academy. According to reports we received from witnesses, firefighters are on the scene of a fire at the apartment complex in the 5600 block of Wyoming Blvd.

Around 12:50 PM, crews declared a two-alarm fire, and additional units were sent. Additional AFR and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue have units staged at the Walmart parking lot at 8000 Academy Rd NE.

Firefighters expressed concerns about a collapse in a portion of the structure. Fire crews are searching apartment units.

Drivers should avoid the intersection of Wyoming Blvd and Academy Rd if able or expect delays.

UPDATE:

AFR released an update on this incident which stated:

On March 14, 2026 at approximately 1220 hours Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to the Academy Heights Apartments, 5611 Wyoming Blvd NE, for reports of a structure fire.

Battalion 3 arrived on scene and reported an exterior fire that spread to the structure and traveled to the roof line. Fire conditions spread rapidly within the void space and a second alarm was dispatched for additional resources.

A primary search “All Clear” was transmitted quickly within the incident. No injuries of civilians or firefighters were reported.

A total of six apartments were damaged as a result of the fire and multiple occupants were displaced. The occupants were assisted by Red Cross and property management.

AFR Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
