UPDATE:

*APD released an update regarding this crash. In the email, it was clarified that the critically injured person was the individual who was transported to the hospital, but they died at UNMH, not at the crash scene as initially relayed to us.

The advisory went on to say:

“APD’s Fatal Crash Team is investigating a three-vehicle, deadly crash that occurred this evening on Eubank Blvd. and Layton Ave., N.E.

Investigators determined a silver Kia sedan was traveling eastbound on Layton and stopped at a red light in the turn bay to travel from eastbound-to-northbound Eubank. The Kia quickly accelerated into the intersection against a solid red light.

A gray Jeep was traveling in the #1 lane of southbound Eubank approaching Layton. The silver Jeep entered the intersection and T-boned the silver Kia in the intersection. The Jeep continued southbound veering to the left, due to vehicle damage, where it struck a white Volkswagen van that was on northbound Eubank to westbound Layton turn bay.

The driver of the Kia had labored breathing and was transported to a local hospital where he was later died.

The driver of the Jeep had minor injuries and remained on scene. The driver of the Volkswagen van was uninjured. There was a juvenile passenger in the Volkswagen van who was also uninjured.

At this time it does not appear impairment was a factor for this crash. It also does not appear speed was a factor for this crash. At this time it appears the main contributing factor for this crash was caused by the driver of the Kia disregarding the traffic control device and running a red light.”
