Albuquerque –
Homicide detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department have arrested 23-year-old Andrew Johns for the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Andrew Flores after a fight while off-roading south of Albuquerque.
Johns has been charged with an open count of murder and was booked into the Metro Detention Center overnight.
According to a criminal complaint, the incident reportedly began just before midnight on Monday, September 9, 2024, when Johns called police to report a fight with Flores. The two had been riding an all-terrain vehicle near Bobby Foster Trail and Picaros Rd. Johns told APD officers that Flores became angry and hit him several times with a plastic pole. Purportedly, Johns warned Flores he would retrieve his gun from his truck, and as he did, Flores allegedly threw rocks and taunted him, saying, “Then do it.”
Johns said he fired a shot into the air above Flores, who then ran off. Afterward, Johns loaded his ATV onto a trailer and left the area. He later called police, expressing concern for Flores’ safety.

Officers who responded to the scene couldn’t find Flores and tried calling him without success. They confiscated Johns’ rifle when they discovered he was violating a restraining order that barred him from having a gun. According to APD, authorities apprehended Johns and transported him to MDC.
Early the next morning, city workers found a body near Los Picaros Rd. and Dragway Rd. S.E. APD homicide detectives launched an investigation and learned about Johns’ earlier call. The description of Johns’ friend matched the body, which had a gunshot wound to the head.
The criminal complaint states “Andrew Johns was released on his own recognizance from MDC in relation to the charges stemming from his arrest. Mr. Johns was released during the active investigation into the homicide of Andrew Flores. Subsequently, Mr. Johns was detained upon his release and transported to the Albuquerque Police Department Southeast Substation for an interview.”
Detectives tried to interview Johns, but he refused. They secured an arrest warrant for the murder, and Johns, who had been released on the previous charges, was re-arrested under the new charges.
Keep it up Albuquerque, we can hit 100 by the end of the month!
We’ve passed 100. The City is just not indicating them as such. They are DOA, Unattended deaths and or suspicious deaths. Crazy but true. Medina and his Puppets
