At 1:00AM, it was confirmed one person died as a result of this vehicle crash.
We have received more information from APD:
A preliminary investigation indicated that a grey Dodge Dakota pickup truck was traveling northbound on Coors Blvd NW in the middle lane at a high rate of speed, and ran a red light. Simultaneously, a black Tesla was heading westbound on Montano Rd NW in the outer left turning lane, intending to turn southbound onto Coors. A Toyota Corolla was adjacent to the Tesla in the first lane that continues westbound on Montano. Both the Tesla and Toyota had a green light and proceeded through the intersection. At that moment, the Dodge collided with the Tesla on the driver’s side and also struck the Toyota on the rear driver’s side. Following the collision, the driver of the Dodge fled the scene.
Bystanders and witnesses pursued the driver to a nearby Walgreens and restrained him until police arrived. The driver was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver and passenger of the Tesla sustained critical injuries and were transported to UNMH.
The driver died at the hospital, while the passenger remains in critical condition. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries. The Dodge driver was also transported to UNMH after complaining of chest pain. The DWI on-call officer assessed him for DWI at UNMH and determined that he was impaired to the slightest degree. A warrant was requested, and his blood was drawn. He has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and additional other charges.
