Albuquerque –
The Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue have responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle collision on Interstate 25 southbound, which happened south of Central. When they arrived, they found a rider who was down and had reportedly sustained a fatal head injury. The accident reportedly happened just before 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 18.

Officers, Police Service Aides, and New Mexico National Guard Units are now blocking off all lanes of interstate 25 southbound and diverting drivers off I-25 at the exit for Lead/Coal (exit 224A). Drivers should anticipate prolonged delays on I-25SB. Motorists who are able to exit the interstate earlier should do so at MLK/Central (224B).
APD has requested the assistance of the New Mexico State Police to handle this fatal crash investigation given that it happened on the interstate. It is unknown whether APD’s Fatal Crash Team or the NMSP will ultimately take the lead on this case, but the interstate will likely remain closed for some time as authorities work to determine what happened.

If we learn more about this crash or the subsequent investigation, we will update you. We will try to update this posting below if or when we learn about the interstate opening back up.
